The Sagamartha (Everest) Base Camp trek
takes us into one of the most spectacular regions of
Nepal where the Sherpa culture thrives amongst the
highest peaks in the world.
The Sagamartha massif as seen from Thyangboche and Kala
Pattar is a sight you will never forget, and the
hospitality of these tough mountain people will remain
with you for a long time.
This is the traditional trek to view Sagamartha,
following the historic trail and travelling in true
expedition style; it will appeal to those who wish to
retrace the steps of history to the base of the highest
mountain in the world act. |

About

 |
Itinerary |
Day 01 :
Arrival in Kathmandu |
Day 02 :
Sightseeing |
Day 03 :
Kathmandu - Lukla - Phakding: By plane to Lukla
airport in East Nepal. The airport is situated
on 2,800 meters altitude. Walk to Phakding at
2,800 meters. As you mighty have noticed the
information about altitudes vary from source to
source. For this itinerary, I have chosen to
mention the altitudes given by the Lonely Planet
"Trekking in Nepal Himalaya". Even most
altimeters will give different information due
to how it is programmed in relation to
temperature.
In Phakding you make your first
camp. During the trek there will be a staffs
including cook, route men, porters and helpers.
You will stay in tents, two people in each tent;
there will be a dining tent for the meals. |
Day 04 :
Phakding - Namche: Walk to Namche Bazaar at
3,440 meters. Follow Dudh Kosi River upstream.
In Jorsale we stop for lunch before climbing the
steep 600 meters up to Namche at 3,440 meters.
Make it a slow because
you might be slightly affected by the altitude. |
Day 05 :
This is a rest day for acclimatisation. Namche
Bazaar is the traditional centre for the Sherpa
community. It has also become a famous place for
trekkers from all over the world. Many of the
Nepalese who have climbed Everest and the other
high peaks in Nepal live here. Visit the market
and enjoy the small restaurants with local
delicacies like buttered tea or yak cheese. You
can even get Western bread. |
Day 06 :
Walk to Tengboche Monastery at 3,870 meters.
While walking you get a splendid view of both
Everest and
Lhotse, the forth-highest mountain (8,488 m.) |
Day 07 :
Walk to Dingboche at 4,530 meters. You start
going through rhododendron forest, cross the
river and continue to Pangboche for lunch. Make
a visit to the gompa. Here they keep the
well-known scalp of a yeti. The famous mountain
Amadablam will follow you to the right the whole
day. |
Day 08 :
You stay one day in Dingboche for
acclimatization. During the day you can walk
close to the glaciers or you can climb the small
mountain behind the lodge. From here you can see
Makalu, the fifth highest mountain 8,463meters. |
Day 09 :
Walk to Lobuche 4,930 meters |
Day 10 :
Walk to Gorak Shep 5, 160 meters, which you will
reach about lunchtime. This will be your
campsite for three nights. Spend the rest day
resting and going to bed early. |
Day 11 :
Get up early in the morning to walk up to the
Kalapattar 5,545 meters. Kalapattar has one of
the best views of the top of Mr. Everest.
Sagarmatha is the name in Nepalese and
Quomolonga in the name in Tibetan and Sherpa
Languages. Watch the early rays of sum on the
top. The descent to Gorak Shep is quite
difficult and steep. So take it easy. Stay in
Gorak Shep. |
Day 12 :
This day we will walk to Mt. Everest base camp
5,360 meters. However, you will not be able to
camp there. There will probably be snow and
difficult to prepare a camp. You will walk back
