According to legend, Langtang valley was discovered by a Lama following a runaway Yak, hence the name "Lang". Tibetan for Yak, and "Tang" meaning to follow. Langtang is a narrow valley, that lies just south of the Tibetan border, sandwiched between the main Himalayan range to the north and slightly lower range of snow clad peaks to the south. This high and isolated region is inhabited by people of Tibetan origin, who practice Buddhism. A trek through Langtang valley offers an opportunity to explore villages and monasteries and to visit glaciers at the head of the valley. |
